My values are socially acceptable and I find that my moral actions are supported by my surroundings. Furthermore, in everyday life I feel confident that I have enough values in my toolbox to act morally correctly. On the other hand, the weakness of my moral philosophy is that it doesn't always provide an answer. In my profession as a military officer, I face difficult moral dilemmas during training and operations. As a wartime leader, I am responsible for making life and death decisions, in a chaotic environment with limited information. It's easy to say that I will always act according to my values and those of my company. Do I follow the laws of war or do I act for the greatest good? Will I torture someone to save my family or am I willing to sacrifice my soldiers, my family and myself for that purpose? When I face difficult moral dilemmas, I must consider both the rules and the consequences and, based on my character and core values, make the decision that I think is right.
