In terms of play-by-post, this means that two or more players write a short story, either as an initial post or in response to new posts. Role-playing by post is often done on a forum, but can also be done by simply emailing each other, although that means the audience is limited to the players themselves. The result is a collaborative narrative, which other Internet or forum users can read repeatedly, as long as the role-playing game remains hosted on a server. This initial collaboration can give rise to other storylines and more interaction between player characters. The purpose of role-playing The main purpose is to entertain. By writing an RPG and publishing it, other people may read it, and thus might find it interesting, and continue to follow those characters as the writers develop the plot and characters themselves. The writer enjoys it as role playing provides them the freedom to express their imagination with words. In this way role players are similar to authors, without a paycheck. As a role-play per post, participating in such interactions can give those whose first language is English a boost in their overall ability with written English. With a language other than English as a first language, writing English can be quite difficult, but interacting with tolerant players, who are willing to teach and not be condescending towards such a player, can help a person whose first language is not there.
