Topic > Revenge and Morality: Reflections on Poe's Work

I would never normally find myself reading something so dark. Incredibly, though, I really enjoyed it all. However, I wonder if I'm simply drawn to the way Poe writes or the actual darkness involved in this story. I think Poe's personal life changed the way he wrote. Poe was never in the best of minds, most likely why his story was so hateful. Therefore, I would like to believe that I am more intrigued by the way he writes specifically than typical dark stories. In response to Edgar Allen Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado", revenge can prevail over all. Like most people, I once found myself watching from the sidelines in annoyance. It takes a lot to make a calm person like me resent you, but, as in the case of Montresor, it is possible to get so irritated that you carry out a revenge plot.
