Lessons to Learn in A Thousand Splendid SunsA powerful, moving, eye-opening novel is what should be taught in the twelfth grade curriculum. A Thousand Splendid Suns written by Khaled Hosseini is just that. It is an incredible novel that gives students a better understanding of the 4U course. First, the author explores literacy devices that effectively illustrate and are applicable to 4U students and their journey to postsecondary school. Secondly, A Thousand Splendid Suns relates to the novel The Kite Runner as they both have main characters with tragic flaws in their lives similar to Amir, Hassan, and Baba. It uses a woman as the protagonist instead of a man, giving the reader a different perspective on life in Afghanistan as a woman instead of a man. Finally, the duality of human nature through the difference of the characters, linking the novel to an important theme in the journey. Therefore, A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini is an incredibly moving novel that should be taught in the 12th grade curriculum as students would only benefit from reading this novel. Throughout the twelfth grade course, students are required to learn literacy tools to give them a better understanding of understanding in the 4U English course. In the novel A Thousand Splendid Suns, multiple devices are used throughout the novel, demonstrating better understanding for students. Premonitions, irony and metaphors recurred frequently in this novel. To begin with, in A Thousand Splendid Suns, Mariam's mother, Nana, often told her that her ex-husband had told his other wives that she had forced herself on him and that it was all her fault that he didn't love her.
