is feared by us too. Before the Iranian Revolution, the United States government actually supported Iran and supported the Shah in an effort to make the country more Westernized. Currently, however, there is a lot of disgust with Iran in this country and recently images of Iranians chanting, “Death to America!” were shown on TV. Now, this is exactly why Satrapi was again moved to write Persepolis. Most Americans believe that the entire country of Iran thinks so and Satrapi refutes this statement by saying: “A country should not be judged based on the actions of just a few.” The sad truth is that only a small portion of the country supports this type of extremist ideology, similar to how a small portion of the United States supports white supremacy. Should the United States be seen as a country intolerant of racism? No. Likewise, Iran should not be viewed this way
