. Explains mirror theory and self-concept as it pertains to Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona, and Prince Farquar. Your answer must address the components of the self. In your answer, include how self-concept influences how they communicate. Remember that communication includes cognitive, listening and speaking processes. According to mirror theory, we use others as a mirror to see ourselves and imagine what others think of us, then include these imaginations in our self-concept. In the movie "Shrek", the main character and hero of the story, Shrek, was always worried about his appearance and what people think about his face and dress. That's why he was shocked when he thought that the princess was talking about his horrible donkey face and reacted very negatively to express his love towards the princess. The self-concept describes a person and his or her personality. A person's self-concept always influences his or her ability to communicate with others. When Shrek brought a flower for Princess Fiona and wanted to express his feelings towards her, he listened to the whole conversation between the donkey and the princess. The princess spoke of the secret why she became ugly at night. But Shrek thought she was talking about his ugly face and didn't want to marry her because of it. In that case Shrek was just listening to their conversation, but not listening and this indicates his poor self-concept. Although the Dragon breathes fire and eliminates any knight who tries to save the princess, this is no ordinary fairy tale dragon. Hanging out at the castle and being surrounded by hot, boiling lava all day can make any dragon thirsty for a little love. He could find the true heart of love inside the donkey and even though he couldn't speak, they communicated and expressed their love with each other. When the donkey pretended to praise the dragon's beauty, the dragon took it for real and chased the donkey until he managed to arouse true love for him in the donkey's heart. Initially Shrek denied taking the princess's hand, then the princess agreed to marry the greedy prince Farquar and wanted to get married as soon as possible. The greedy, short and shy king thought that Fiona loved him so much and that's why he wanted to get married quickly. But it was a verbal miscommunication and their hearts could not communicate... middle of paper......ions. He further explains how Donkey's comparison of the parfait layers is not applicable to the social penetration model, nor in line with the analogy Shrek was making. Social penetration refers to the relational bonding process whereby individuals move from superficial to more intimate communication. Shrek is the fairy tale where the ugly green ogre is the hero, the donkey who talks non-stop is his helper, and there is a princess who turns into an ogre at night. At first Shrek helped the donkey and as a result the donkey tried to be his friend even though Shrek insulted him over and over again. But the donkey couldn't understand why Shrek was trying to avoid him and he liked to isolate himself from social life. Everyone hated Shrek for his ugly suit without thinking twice. That's why Shrek tried to keep himself away from everyone and never wanted any friends. But the donkey followed Shrek every step after all Shrek's insults and escorted Shrek on his journey to save Princess Fiona. But in reality if someone misbehaves like Shrek did with the donkey he can never be friends as in the end he turned out to be a very close friend.
