However, the concept that I believe will apply most to my practice is the idea proposed in the book about how, to effect change, one must go against the status quo sometimes (Godin, 2008). This view reminded me of a topic discussed in my basic nursing course related to the sacred cow and nursing. Holy cow is a term for facts, protocols, standards of practice, etc. which laid the foundations of nursing practice (Rauen, Chulay, Bridges, Vollman, & Arbour, 2008). To bring about change in the ever-evolving field of nursing, it may be appropriate to go against the “sacred cow” policy”.
