Do you think personality tests are valid and useful for determining your career? Often disputed, the usefulness of these personality tests is needed as evidence to guide people in their career decisions. Knowing your personality type gives you an idea of what field of work you would most likely enjoy or feel comfortable doing. There are various reasons why personality tests are very useful and these key aspects will be specified and analysed. There are multiple purposes for personality tests, and the test results help someone learn about their personality type, how to understand the actions of others, and appropriate career and occupational choices. The test promotes self-reflection, understanding the human mind, and learning about unknown characteristics and traits about oneself. Personality tests have the ability to teach an individual what type of people they would most likely get along with and work well with. Additionally, jobs may use personality tests during the hiring process as a tool to recruit or place people into similar groups to perform well with each other (OgalloFilled, G. 2013). Based on the Myers-Briggs personality test, my personality is best described as ESFJ. The meaning of the letter E/extroversion means that I have an extroverted character and am mainly concerned with the feelings and thoughts of others. S/sensing means that I tend to focus more on the present than the future, and the information I choose to perceive is more concrete than theoretical. The letter F/feeling is defined by stating that my decisions are made based on personal emotions which are strongly influenced by the impact of people. The last letter J/judging specifies that I plan things accordingly in o...... middle of paper...... of the positive traits of ESFJs were accurate; the information regarding how I interact with people, being reliable and well organized was very accurate. Additionally, the characteristics related to being an effective guidance counselor were similar to the characteristics of ESFJs, which informed me about the validity of personality tests.
