The novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, has many intriguing characters. One of these characters is their slave, Jim. He has many different qualities that are portrayed through his actions, words, and appearance. These qualities include loyalty, compassion, and superstition. These qualities show us that Jim is a good person. First, Jim displays the quality of being obedient and loyal. This is demonstrated by how Jim stays with Tom Sawyer after he is shot. The doctor treating Tom described Jim's actions. "So I had to stay there until dawn; and I never saw a nigger who was more of a dick or more full of faith, and yet he was risking his freedom to do it, and he was all tired." out, and I see quite clearly that he has been working hard lately. I liked the nigga for that. (p. 286) The doctor was describing what an honest and loyal man Jim had stayed with Tom out of loyalty Huck. Tom was Huck's best friend. He could have walked away and been free. Instead he sacrificed his freedom for obedience. This shows how Jim is loyal from what others (the doctor) say about him is when he wears the Arab costume.
