It is like a bodyguard for the students. Whenever parents send their children to school, they expect their children to be protected. This safety can be taken to the next level if public schools consider investing in uniforms. “Above all the benefits of school uniforms, the benefit of school safety and reduced disciplinary problems is by far the greatest. According to Isaacson, “One of the main benefits of school uniforms, supporters say, is that they make schools safer. Uniforms are said to reduce the influence of gangs, minimize violence by reducing some sources of conflict, and help identify intruders” (lyne) (Isaacson, 2004, para. 4). Long Beach, California has been an area of study linking uniforms and decreases in school violence, crime, and disciplinary issues. “In 1994, the Long Beach, California, school system began requiring students to wear uniforms. The system has seen a decline in suspensions, assaults, thefts, vandalism, weapons and drug violations, and an increase in attendance” (Chaika). As highlighted in many other studies regarding the same school system, there has been a dramatic 36% drop in all violent crimes at school (Mancini). The superintendent of the Long Beach school system, Carl A.
