Topic > Snape at the Tower Struck by Lightning - 1935

Hamlet's "to be or not to be" may have been debated for years, but at the moment the question is "is he or is he not". The most ambiguous character in HP, I think, and his biggest ambiguity is where his loyalties really lie. Yes, I am referring to the Potions Master, the feared darkness of the dungeons, Severus Snape. Arguably the most mysterious of the main characters, Snape has been the subject of heated debate ever since DD told Harry in PS/SS that Snape wanted to save Harry so he could go back to hating James' memory. Intrigued? You bet we were. Every time we think we're starting to understand it, we learn something that throws it in our faces. Every answer we get about him raises about twenty new questions. And there is, of course, the million dollar question "Which side is he really on?" "After HBP, some fans could barely control their fury, hatred and contempt towards him. Others believe that he actually had no choice, that he did what he had to do or that he did it on DD's orders. Of course there 'is also the undecided group, but since they don't affect the balance in any way, I ignore them. For the most part, Snape's murder of DD has him classified as a villain boy, and there are murmurs of "I could have told you" from multiple corners. Many have gone from the "I don't think Snape is evil" camp to "Snape is a ball of slime, asshole, #@&*!$. Let's take a look at what exactly Snape does that night... Our first look at Snape that night is on the Astronomy Tower, with a weakened DD, an invisible immobilized Harry, Draco and 4 DE. Just before Snape kills DD, when DD is begging him (for life or death?), ¡¥ Snape looked for a moment at Dumbledore, and there was revulsion and hatred etched in the hard lines of his face¡¦ This revulsion and hatred have created a lot of confusion among fans. Snape's evil group takes it at face value, the fact that Snape is disgusted and hates the sight of DD, and is finally able to show it. The counterargument is that Snape was disgusted, not by DD, but by what he had to do. Snape, at first glance, can distinguish the following things:-""DD doesn't have a wand""Draco has lost his nerve
