Alex informed me that the use of her journal was a powerful tool for her throughout the second half of the internship, allowing for both critical reflection and self-care. During the second half of the internship, Alex showed great growth in his verbal and nonverbal communication skills. The ASC has a diverse range of clients with different cultural backgrounds, family dynamics, physical and/or mental health issues, and varying levels of needs. Alex has demonstrated that he can adapt his communication style to each case he is working on, through different communication styles, ranging from face to face, telephone, email and referral forms. Where necessary, Alex was also able to manage the use of our telephone interpreting service with great ease. Alex has also demonstrated great teamwork skills, which are demonstrated through his meetings with other social workers, internal ASC staff in other programs (health, legal, employment), and external professionals, when Alex advocates for clients.
