The small study was conducted to determine how often participants were exposed to lateral violence. This voluntary study was web-based to allow for anonymity and consisted of a pre-test, then an educational session followed by a post-test, with a three-month follow-up survey. The pre-intervention survey showed that staff witnessed lateral violence on a weekly basis and post-intervention showed a decrease in behaviors on a monthly basis. This shows that education can have a positive impact on decreasing incidents of lateral violence. Myers et al., (2016) conducted their study in collaboration with a large New York State study to explore nurses' experiences with lateral violence. Myers et al., (2016) offered both online and paper surveys on nurse comfort. The study revealed that lateral violence is found in all nursing roles, from nurse practitioners to leadership roles. The findings from this study have led organizations to implement educational programs and provide open forums to give staff the opportunity to talk about their experiences.
