Introduction Whenever people think of coffee, they think of the name Starbucks. What is Starbucks? Starbucks Corporation is an American global coffee company and coffee shop chain. Starbucks opened its first store in Seattle's Pike Place Market in 1971, it was just a roaster and retailer of whole and ground coffee, tea and spices. Today, Starbucks has more than 19,000 retail stores worldwide. Starbucks' mission is “to inspire and cultivate the human spirit – one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time” (Starbucks Corporation, 2014). While Starbucks' main selling point is coffee, Starbucks also offers a wide range of products, from tea, to smoothies, and produce. In terms of coffee quality, Starbucks believes in serving the best coffee possible to all customers. Using ethical sourcing practices, Starbucks ensures that all of its coffee is grown to the highest quality standards. For example, Starbucks coffee buyers travel from America all over the world, from Latin America to Africa to Asia, just to select the best quality coffee beans. Additionally, through the exclusive Starbucks Roast, Starbucks master roasters enhance the balance and rich flavor of the beans. (Starbucks Corporation, 2014). Starbucks employees, also known as their partners, are the heart of the Starbucks Enterprise. All Starbucks partners are treated with respect and dignity as Starbucks knows their importance and contribution to the entire Starbuck Enterprise.
