Our world has changed. In the early days it was necessary to spend a lot of time and resources to deliver a letter or news: people had to send messages across huge territories, using animals and birds. Nowadays it only takes a few seconds to receive a message from another part of the world. Can you imagine it? Billions of users around the world, terabytes of information are sent from one continent to another, the number of nodes between the sender and the recipient could be more than a thousand. Even though this system seems to work in a complicated way, using telecommunication services is simple for a normal user. Any person can pick up the phone or turn on the computer terminal to initiate the call anywhere on the planet. In the past, people might not see each other for years, but now video conferencing and telepresence are changing our methods of communication. All the history of the world is just a click away, our lives have become digital, our friends are becoming virtual. What will happen in the future? There are many more discoveries to be made. I was fascinated by feeling part of the telecommunications system, developing with it and solving its problems. My interest in this field began when I was in eighth grade. It was the usual summer and all I wanted to do was relax and have fun. However, my plans were about to change: my mother asked me if I wanted to work in a company to earn some money and become more independent. This company was setting up ADSL, which was prevalent in our city at the time. I considered this job easy because I already had experience with PCs and ADSL routers. It seemed like I would forget about this paper right after I finished it, but... halfway through the paper... After this conversation there was no doubt that I wanted to apply for admission and hopefully get accepted. My vacation motivated me to do some investigation into Northeastern University. I spent some time looking for information about it: about schools, about scientific research, about professors. As a result, my desire to run became even stronger than before. Also for the uniqueness of the Master in Telecommunications Systems Management in Boston. I have many plans for my future after graduation. My goal is to contribute to the development of communications worldwide. People will always need to stay in touch with each other, it's our nature. I am sure that Northeastern University and the Graduate School of Engineering will help me pursue my knowledge, so I could apply it in the future to make it easier for our society to stay connected in our big world.
