Independent Study Unit – Phase 2Literature ReviewIntroduction21 of the first 23 astronauts in space were firstborn; there is a reason for this (Hartshorne, 2010). They say that the order in which a person is born and the years between siblings determine a person's personality (Hartshorne, 2010). Those born first are seen as dominant and are pressured, while the youngest child is the most loved (Hartshorne, 2010). The middle child sometimes feels neglected and has no sense of identity in the family (Hartshorne, 2010). Additionally, a house full of siblings close together will be very energetic, while older siblings spaced apart will result in a very passive area (babycenter.ca). Many parents prefer their children to be a certain number of years old for specific reasons. Reasons why this study is being conducted, to determine the overall importance of how age differences between siblings affect a child's development. For a while, much data has suggested that there are many facts linking birth order to personality or behavior. Overall, the importance of this study is to determine how age differences between siblings affect a child's development. Would a gap of 3 or more years make a child more shy or obnoxious and loud as he or she gets older? The results of the whole experiment will be divided into 3 different age differences from zero to one, two to four and five plus years. The reasons why so much study is devoted to the age difference between siblings is so that parents know how their family would behave. For parents who would like their home to be full of energy, the age difference between children is usually small. And parents, who would like to spend more time with their children, tend to wait a while...... middle of paper ......on/dobasicsearch?Query=sibling+age+gap&acc=on&wc=on&fc =offAge gaps between siblings: how they affect families.
