Topic > The police have become the criminals - 632

In our time, the police have become the criminals. Some policemen are using their power to do bad things and society has started to fear the police. The law enforcement system needs changes. The courts have failed the police, and the police have turned to other means of justice. We must stop corruption in the police force. I have respect for the police and the work they do. Cops are a select few who do dangerous work. Police have done many great things to help improve communities, help people during off-duty hours, and resist many fears. Police trying to enforce the law are on the streets in all types of weather. Instead of staying home with their families during the holidays, they work to keep the peace. Every day they step out into a world where violence is considered appropriate. Our laws have allowed individuals to slip through the cracks of our justice system. The criminals who raped and killed relied on technicalities. The findings left officials with a sense of failure by the system. Some police officers took matters into their own hands. Across America, police have been involved in scandals and drugs. They are abusing the power they have been given. Communities began to distrust the police due to their behavior towards citizens. People were beaten and harassed by the boys in blue. People in communities have seen police push people around and take things from people for no reason. People are getting the wrong message. The public can no longer see the difference between police and criminals. Problems like police corruption have no simple answer. However, there are steps to address the root of the problem. We must start by holding officers accountable for their actions. If an officer uses excessive force, he should be placed on probation. People must demonstrate to the police that misconduct will not be tolerated. Attitudes need to change within departments. When departments no longer ignore complaints of excessive use of force, police attitudes will begin to change. Screening of agents needs to be done more often. More psychologists and criminologists are needed to spot officers who are in trouble or on the verge of mental illness. A good start would be to teach senior officers to recognize warning signs such as delays or angry mode swings.
