For my book I chose to read The Body of Stephen King. This novel is about four young boys who go on a journey to find a body somewhere in the woods on the county line. This story isn't just about four kids going on an adventure, it's about them growing closer to each other and learning real-life lessons along the way. The four boys are all in their first year of middle school, so this is a time in their lives where they are learning things that will help them in life. In the first major scene the boys are all in a tree house where the character Vern tells the other three boys about the body. Vern is the outcast of the group who is the laughing stock of their jokes, Teddy is a boy who has been abused by his father and is a strange child, Chris is the tough guy of the group and the leader and Gordy who is the narrator and the story is seen from his point of view. The boys are all convinced that going to look for the body and eventually finding it would make them all heroes and that everyone would like to get to know them. So the boys decide to move forward and try to find the body. The kids gather their things and all tell their parents that they are going to sleep at one of each other's houses and go to the drag races the next day. So they meet downtown and prepare to embark on their journey. Gordy and Chris meet first and Chris shows off the .45 pistol he borrowed from his old man, who was probably too drunk to notice. But while holding it Gordy asks if it's loaded and Chris tells him it's not. But when he pulls the trigger, he fires. They leave from behind the building where they were. They go to meet the other two boys and set off. They depart from the railroad tracks and begin their journey to find the lifeless body of a boy their age who met his fate on a moving train. Shortly into the journey they discover that they forgot to assign the task of carrying the food. They pool the money they have and plan to send a person to buy the stuff.
