The guitar and its effect on my life It was Christmas morning 2003, the atmosphere was silent and peaceful; there was no sound. Suddenly I was awakened from my eternal sleep. With the realization of the significance of the moment and the event, I jumped out of bed and ran into the living room where a Christmas tree stood tall. Under the tree lay my precious gifts. While rummaging through these random gifts I had been given, I was disappointed to see that there were few that specifically appealed to me. Yet, foolish child that I was, I had overlooked one. In the corner of the room was an unpacked box; above labeled “Electric Guitar and Amplifier”. Even though it didn't seem to be something that big at first, little did I know that this item would be something that would soon have a very significant effect on my life... From that point on, the guitar seemed to turn the tables for me. It was very different from any other musical instrument I had ever played before, it seemed to be something I had become completely fond and addicted to. Despite all the offers my father had made me regarding guitar lessons, I had intentionally refused them. As perplexed as my father was by my decision, I explained to him that this was an instrument I wanted to play as a fun activity. Having a guitar teacher would give me consistent blocks of homework on specific scenes, thus turning practice into a homework. I wanted to learn to play this instrument at my own pace and I wanted to learn to play this instrument so that I could think of it as something... middle of paper... the situation with studying the guitar has almost gotten to the point that my parents they had no choice but to impose a maximum study time of 3 hours per day on the guitar. They also warned me that if my grades worsened, my guitar would be the first possession to be confiscated. This in a way might even be a good thing considering the fact that it gives me more incentive to achieve higher academic grades. After weighing the pros and cons, I would definitely say that playing the guitar has had a favorably positive effect both psychologically and physically on my life. With the help of my guitar I was able to free myself from the stress of everyday life, learn new ideas about music and make new friends. Of all the greatest gifts anyone has ever given me, my guitar is definitely among the best.
