Topic > Jack Hitt's Binge Battle Analysis

Drinking is legal and becoming an alcoholic is not what anyone wants to become, but there are many reasons why people become alcoholics and that's where the problem lies. What we need to try to understand are the whys, not the hows. Alcohol is everywhere and if one wants to drink, they will find a way and college kids are just the same: they are getting a taste of adult life as they venture into college and are forced to make choices that will shape the rest of their lives. lives for better or for worse. What they still need is guidance, guidance to make the right decisions, even when faced with trying to conform to the groups they think they want to be a part of. To summarize my response to this reading I would have to conclude that Jack Hitt is right that binge eating is still very much alive and well on college campuses, and still makes a very valid point why it should be stopped. Where I disagree with the reading is that people will continue to binge no matter what. People are intelligent in many ways and if you show them the potential outcomes that drinking can lead them to, then they are less likely to continue along this downward spiral which could have lasting effects on the rest of their lives and even their loved ones.
