The book I chose to make is Street Pharm by Allison van Diepen, the book has 297 pages, the reason why I chose this book is that personally I'm tired of novels set years before I was born. This novel is about urban problems and a child's attempt to survive the pressures of present-day Brooklyn. Within the novel, there are several subplots, one of which is his love interest, Alyse, and Ty's struggle to stay in school. As well as his struggle not to lose money or control of his territory. It's interesting to watch this young man, balancing these things in his life and not letting them interfere with each other. Ty Johnson learned business from his father and knows how to survive in the real world, taking care of problems on the spot. He has everything under control and knows the way to handle things. He is intelligent, patient and skilled, everything he needs when he inherited his father's business. Ty was recently expelled from mainstream high school and is attending an alternative school where if he drops classes without a medical certification, he could be expelled. School gets better for him when he meets a girl named Alyse, they start studying together and Ty does really well in his classes. After being friends with Alyse, Ty asks her out. They end up going to a high-end restaurant that Ty insists on going to, just because it was worth it.
