Decision Making in Management IntroductionThe purpose of this paper is to find a decision making model using various resources. I will focus on identifying the steps in the decision-making model, how the model applied to a recent workplace decision, and examine how critical thinking influenced the decision. Critical thinking Thinking is the central process by which we transfer our thoughts. Our thought process is transferred onto paper or spoken verbally, these methods help to transfer one's thoughts clearly. Writing helps sharpen our thinking and enrich the mind with understanding that wasn't there before (Kirby & Goodpaster, 1999). Writing your thoughts doesn't give you an exact picture of your thoughts, but writing will produce a foundation to build on. As cited in the "Critical Thinking" reading material: Writing, then, can mirror the mind; focus it in a state of clarity and present new awareness. Beyond these gifts, writing offers another rich gift that is a paradox: when we pour water from a glass we are emptying the glass, but when we pour thoughts from our mind onto paper we are filling our mind (Kirby & Goodpastor, 1999 ).Critical thinking involves evaluating the situation, filtering choices, evaluating the results, and deciding whether your conclusions make sense. A critical thinker must also tolerate some uncertainty and be patient in accepting that not all answers come together. Every day, people must make judgments, classify ideas, follow logic, and engage in reasoning to solve problems. Being able to think critically will improve your reasoning and problem-solving skills. The nature of logic has a lot to do with how an individual views or derives a hypothesis or decision. Decision-Making Model After researching several decision-making models, the model that is closely related to the course of action recently used in the workplace is the Seven-Step Decision-Making Model.
