It has been shown that the fight for social justice and the common good often entails a high cost for the people involved. Through writings such as Dr. Martin Luther King's “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” and Sophocles' “Antigone,” as well as lectures such as Dr. Colbourn's “Confronting History and the Good Life: Life after Rosewood” is demonstrated how Life , freedom and a normal daily life suffer as the cost of the struggle for social justice and the common good. For starters, Dr. Martin Luther King, as well as many other African Americans, fought for equality, social justice, and a better life. life for African Americans, with a consequent high cost. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was ridiculed and was the target of numerous attacks simply for attempting to exercise his free speech and right to protest. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested a total of 30 times during his lifetime. When he wrote his famous "Letter from a Birmingham Jail," Dr. King was put in prison while peacefully protesting because Birmingham officials claimed he was "parading without permission." The fact that he was arrested 30 times proves that Dr. King was not afraid to risk his freedom during his fight for a better life. Not only the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but also that of his family changed during his fight for social justice and the common good. His children never had the chance to experience a normal childhood. His family was an example to the black community and a target for racist people who were against his actions. His family also traveled extensively.
