Anorexia Nervosa – the belief that you are fat, despite being very thin. Most women have heard the word “anorexia” and most likely associate it with models, celebrities and never think that it could happen to them. However the word “anorexia” has a lot more meaning and facts behind it to show that it is not as far-fetched an idea as people might think. Anorexia nervosa is an extremely dangerous eating disorder that goes far beyond celebrities and models and not eating enough. Among women in the United States, it's a constant reminder with the underlying message being "be thin or die trying." There is a myriad of diet plans, pills and meals and women seem to have the idea that they need to change some sort of physical attribute of their body. Most adult women are aware of anorexia and the effects it can have on the body. However, the problem is within the four walls of women's homes. Within those walls are the women's daughters and they, unlike their mothers, do not understand the real effects of not eating enough. All young teenagers understand is that they are not as skinny as other girls they are surrounded by on a daily basis. –Research shows that by age 7, many children have already decided that it is not okay to be fat. – The fact that the desire to be thinner has already crossed the minds of seven-year-old girls should be an automatic red signal to the media and society to tone down the signals they are sending to girls in America. -69% of girls in fifth to twelfth grade reported that magazine images influenced their idea of ​​a perfect body shape. - Social media and other forms of media cause more problems with anorexia than people realize.
