Life and writings of Saint PaulPaul, once a persecutor of Christians, was on the road to Damascus when suddenly God spoke to him. “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” (Acts 9:4) God asked. Paul was then blinded and taken by his friends to Damascus, where a disciple named Ananias was waiting for him. Ananias healed Paul's blindness and baptized him. From then on Paul dedicated himself to spreading the Good News throughout the world. Returning to Damascus, he remained there for some time, preaching that Jesus is the Son of God. For this reason the Jews began to hate him and Paul had to flee the city. He then went to the city of Jerusalem to meet Paul, head of the new Church. After leaving Jerusalem he was called by Barnabo to go to Antioch. A year later there was a great famine and both Barnabus and Paul were sent to the poor Christian community of Jerusalem. After achieving their objectives they returned to Antioch. Shortly thereafter Paul and Barnabus made their first missionary trip, visiting the island of Cyprus. They then traveled to Asia Minor and founded new churches in Iconium and Lystra. After the Apostolic Council of Jerusalem, Paul made his second missionary journey, first visiting the churches that had already been founded by him in Asia Minor.
