Hughes' story overall was more entertaining because it leaves the reader with a positive situation where he overcomes heartbreak and continues his quest for knowledge. Brody's story wasn't that funny because it ends on a sad note and makes the reader forget about any funny elements and focus on the sad irony of the story.
