As head coach, Shirley must determine one thing: This team is unwilling or unable to change. If this team is unable to change, it may mean they want to move on, but Coach Shirley is not giving his players enough skills, resources, and training to lead them on the path to success. Of course, players may be afraid of the new changes, or may not be able to learn these new skills. Additionally, Coach Shirley's players may feel incompetent or fearful of breaking out of the box or moving in a new direction. Basketball players need support, help with skill development, and encouragement from Coach Shirley. On the other hand, Coach Shirley may have players who are not willing to change. Reluctant players need to get on board when faced with the leadership that Coach Shirley has put in place. These are the players that make Coach Shirley's job that much more difficult.
