Allison McMahonFebruary 10, 2013Mrs. BuckleyWriting/HistoryAfter the Dark Ages came a bright period called the Renaissance in which learning, art, and language were recognized. The Renaissance lasted from the 14th to the 17th century. Most of the locations were in Italy. At the beginning of the Renaissance, houses were quite simple. Most people had no household items and only had what needed to last. Some people, if they could afford it, built their homes of brick and stone. The houses were dark because there were small windows for protection. Cooking and other odors made the house stink. There was no running water, so there was a public water service where most of the time the woman would have to get water. There were no toilets; so if they had to leave you would have to find a secluded place. The clothes of the rich were bright and not intended to withstand hard work. New dyes and techniques were created that allowed people to dress more fashionably. The embroidery was always done in gold or silver. The men wore velvet cloaks and other luxurious clothing. The poor dressed simply. Their fabrics, made of wool and linen, were cheaper and more available. They had very few clothes and wore them for a long period of time. They didn't dress for appearance but for warmth. The school was accessible to any free man and he could come or go whenever he wanted. The Renaissance school brought back to life subjects that had been forgotten and helped teach people Latin. Private tutors taught wealthy children and sometimes lived with them. Some teachers have opened a school in their home. School was different for each student. Some went to college to learn Latin, but most students simply went...half of a paper... translated into many languages and played all over the world. Shakespeare produced most of his known works between 1589 and 1613. His early works were primarily comedies and histories, genres which he brought to the pinnacle of the art by the end of the 16th century. He subsequently wrote about tragedies until around 1608; Hamlet, King Lear, Othello and Macbeth. In his last phase, he wrote tragicomedies, also known as love stories, and collaborated with other playwrights. The Renaissance was an educational period for learning literature and architecture and was a bright time after the dark ages. Many people were able to make a difference and change history. The Renaissance helped our daily lives and also helped the things we already knew, bringing back to life topics forgotten in the dark ages. The Renaissance changed the way we live our lives.
