Eros and Psyche is a tragic Greek love story. It's about betrayal, deception and exaggeration. Told many times, there are various accounts of the tale, but they all revolve around the same heartfelt legend of their love. The saga is about the Greek goddess Venus, who becomes jealous of a mortal woman, Psyche, and sends her son, Eros, to do her bidding and ensure that Psyche never finds love. Everything was fine until he fell in love with her. Drama follows. Psyche was the third daughter of a king who had a kingdom. She was so beautiful that people began to worship her instead of Venus. Venus, known for her beauty, not her heart, became angry when she saw humans praising Psyche instead of her. “This homage to the exaltation of a mortal greatly offended the true Venus. Shaking indignantly her ambrosial locks, she exclaimed: "Shall I then be eclipsed in my honors by a mortal maiden? In vain then that royal shepherd, whose judgment was approved by Jupiter himself, gave me the palm of beauty above my illustrious rivals, Pallas and Juno? She will not so silently usurp my honors. I will give her reason to repent of such illicit beauty." (Apuleius1) In his anger he sent for his son, Eros (aka Cupid) and says so. he“....My dear son, punish that contumacious beauty; give your mother revenge as sweet as her wounds are great; infuse into the breast of that haughty girl the passion for some low, mean, unworthy being, that she may derive a mortification as great as her present exultation and triumph."(Apuleius1)In the jealous nature of Venus we can see that she portrays exaggeration. She shows exaggeration condemning Psyche to never be loved. Of course for some people maybe it was the right thing... middle of paper... and, she found someone who loved her, even if it was by chance sincere confession of love, she becomes immortal and they live together, in love, forever.
