Incarceration is considered a form of positive punishment and a form of negative punishment. Opinion varies depending on the type of person and their experience of prison if they left. Most inmates in prison will tell you that it is a horrible place that should disappear. This would allow criminals to go free and allow them to cause harm to others or other illegal activity. Prison wasn't designed to be a paradise, it's a detention center for bad guys, meant to be punished. Without prisons the world would be filled with even greater evil and leave people in greater danger than they already are. Incarceration is what makes those who have done harm appreciate what life has given them. “As we drove through Indiana, we got out of the car and looked at a cornfield… The freedom was so beautiful” (Vick 182). Little things, like even a car ride, will seem so extravagant to a prisoner who has served his sentence. Seeing and visiting family is not just a regular activity, but a privilege that everyone takes for granted. Inmates are considered horrible people, but the little time they put in can change their lives and the lives of everyone around them. The transformation therefore brings a positive effect not only in the release of the prisoner, but also in the recovery of a loved one by the family. A small change then turns into a celebration when loved ones reunite. The inmate reunites again and sees what he missed because of Green 2's horrible choices. The little time spent in time out makes someone a completely different person. The life of the person who has lived the experience of incarceration undergoes a huge change, and the change is an improvement. Anyone can transform into someone who does ve... middle of paper... tion. “Guards are trained to use force to keep prisoners safe from dangerous people in the prison” (Jail Master). Having control over dangerous people allows for peace of mind and a much more positive effect for the inmates. Detainees are then able to remain at peace while in the detention center.
