In the 21st century, businesses large and small, private and public, all strive for economic growth. The small business market is extremely dynamic and changes are rapid. Here are some facts from the U.S. Small Business Administration about small businesses. There are approximately 30 million small businesses in the United States, and they employ just over half of the country's private workforce. They employ a staggering 40% of high-tech workers such as IT professionals, scientists and engineers. More than half of small businesses are home-based businesses and 2% of them are franchises. One of the most important aspects is the fact that most innovations in the United States come from small businesses. In 2008, 627,200 new businesses were started, 596,600 businesses closed and 43,546 companies declared bankruptcy. According to business experts, of all small businesses started, one-third of them are profitable and successful, one-third are almost breaking even, and the rest are declining with negative earnings. Some buyers develop as independent entrepreneurs, while others are more likely to thrive as franchise owners. According to a recent Small Business Administration report (2007), the United States had approximately 26.8 million small businesses in 2006. Indeed, as Moutray (2006) recently reported, most farms in the United States are very small, accounting for about half of the country's real nonagricultural GDP. Over the past decade, small businesses have generated 60-80% of new jobs annually. In reality, there are easy answers to the independent business vs. franchising dilemma. However, a franchise system offers benefits to owners such as brand recognition, inclusion… middle of paper… to ensure employee satisfaction and effectiveness as a way to improve organizational success and profitability. As a result, strong leadership will eventually influence the success and profitability of small businesses. This leadership and management must then be the motivation of employees towards adapting the organizational vision and mission. Small businesses need to improve their operations and, above all, various leadership and management models should be used. This study, therefore, through a series of small business case studies, seeks to analyze the experiences of companies that have sought to expand using small business models. As such, it provides deeper insight into the factors that influence small business growth.
