Being famous can be a good thing but it can also be a bad thing. For Miss Emily, everything started well until changes started happening around her. In the story "A Rose for Emily" William Faulkner uses elements such as setting, point of view, conflict and symbolism to describe the theme of change, death in his story. William Faulkner was born in New Albany, Mississippi, on September 25, 1897. Growing up he was familiar with writing, as his grandfather was a writer himself. Faulkner attended the University of Mississippi in 1924. The same year he published his first volume of poetry. Although he struggled with alcohol abuse in his marriage, he later traveled to New Orleans and other places to write. He preferred to do his work at his home in Mississippi. The main theme shown in the story "A Rose for Emily" is Miss Emily's struggle for change. Miss Emily was used to being the center of attention because of her last name.
