The essence of leadership is very simple. It is helping people express their maximum potential to achieve organizational goals or objectives. “True leadership must be for the benefit of followers, not for the enrichment of leaders.” There are different leaders and leadership qualities that people possess that enable them to provide guidance, implement goals, and encourage people to complete a task. Leadership is an essential skill for everyone to learn because it involves communication and relationships between higher authority figures and followers. Imagining a world without leadership, there would be no motivation for people to achieve goals and tasks. Leaders enable followers to realize their potential for developing leadership qualities through words and actions. The goal of leading a group or organization is to benefit followers so that they can become leaders in the future. True leadership involves developing communication and teamwork skills, working with followers who provide insight into improvements. Leadership encompasses the form of different styles, the two main styles include authoritarian and democratic leadership styles. There are different types of beneficial leadership styles that fit a leader's personality; however, democratic leadership style creates more effectiveness and productivity than authoritarian leadership. The authoritarian leadership style is used by leaders who believe that rules and regulations must be upheld for the success and prosperity of the group or organization. Followers with this leadership style fall short of the decision-making authority a leader would gain.
