As a Man Thinkith by James Allen is an interesting book that really emphasizes that you are your thoughts. What caught my attention about this book is that all of its quotes and its title are from the book of proverbs in the Bible. At first most seem inspiring and full of enthusiasm to get you thinking proactively. But when you pay close attention to some of the harsh quotes that are very extremist, it makes you think: Is this one hundred percent absolute? NO! How is it that “A man is literally what he thinks, his character is the complete sum of all his thoughts” this is somehow true somehow, yet how do homeless people support themselves on the streets? from their thoughts? If it were completely true, if I were in their shoes, I would think about having hot meals and a comfortable bed. You can choose any of these inspiring quotes and you may never realize that the author is so sure of what he is saying, as if there is no excuse and no room for special circumstances. Allen also provides insight into the analogy that the body is the servant of the mind and explains that thoughts, good or bad, will affect the body for better or worse. Allan says the body is the servant of the mind, but when I spend most of my mornings in front of the mirror thinking I'm slimmer, I still haven't lost a single pound since at least a year ago. He also tells readers that they should strive to achieve their goals and even make some sacrifices. Allen also encourages readers to dream big and states that their dreams would be their future destiny in life. As I was reading this it made me think of manifest destiny that was... middle of paper... ieves and everything he fails to accomplish is a direct result of his own thoughts. " How can humanity be where it is today thanks to its own thinking, and what about the rest of the world's thoughts? They would clutter this world with an excessive abundance of evil. How about man who creates obstacles for others like the crabs in a pot analogy; Men pulling each other down so the other can't escape. They are always people who envy each other and will think of many evil ways to make themselves feel better while hurting the other more than enough proof that no, it's not you just because you always thought you were like that. In reality, there are too many factors and details that make us who we are today. The decisions we make can direct us towards a certain path, but the path of the road ahead can redirect our paths that perhaps we would never have thought of taking..
