I feel like they are more likely to listen to me while I teach them a valuable lesson or give them some pointers about college, especially since I'm closer to their age. Going into the internship, I didn't expect that I would enjoy my role as much as I do now, I can see how relatable I am to them, but I'm still considered an adult who they have respect for. I see changes in the dynamic of the program from February to now. Especially when it comes to expressing yourself and learning to write them in poetic forms. As a future psychologist, I feel that this was the best internship I could have done to realize that I want to continue working with adolescents. I realized that I want to continue to make a lasting impression in the lives of teenagers, especially by steering them in the right direction. The journal “Professional Identity Development: A Theory Grounded in the Transformational Task of New Consultants” discusses the identity and role of a consultant, how the approach and roles for new consultants are changing, and how the new method is effective . The method by which they talked about the professional identity of the counselor is described as integrating professional training with personal characteristics in a professional sense so that their sessions are more effective.
