On the path of unity one I was introduced to a few philosophers who saw life differently than I did. These philosophers include Plato, Morpheus, Russell, Descartes, and others. Their perspective on life and knowledge left me with a puzzle in my head; questioning my place of existence in this world. There are some philosophical views that seem scandalous to me to accept. Because if I did, my life would break into so many pieces and I would realize that it was all a lie. However, there are other philosophers who have made me question what is real and knowledge, keeping me safe in my beliefs. The theories of these philosophers opened my mind to the acceptance of potential realities. Like the dream analogy or the possibility of living in a matrix. In the following paragraph I will discuss two main points that struck me the most in this unit. Plato's philosophy of wisdom and knowledge baffles me, I did not understand his views or perception of existence. For the first few weeks; I have questioned his philosophy from every possible angle, especially regarding the “Forms”. “The Good itself” I did not understand nor did I want to understand it. In his interpretation; the “Forms” have always existed and we have only discovered them. But from my point of view; we created them, we, as individuals, made them exist, and if we become extinct, they too will die with us. In my defense; this was possible because we had created the symbol that corresponded to the specific “Shape”. Furthermore; if we do not create a symbol to a specific “Form” then they cannot exist in our world, because we give them value and reason to exist. I was convinced of this dilemma and continue to reread The Republic hopp...... middle of paper ......x. I cannot be sure that the world is actually as I think, or that I am a human being from planet Earth, therefore, Nick Bastrom cannot be ignored regarding his theory because it cannot be disproved. In conclusion, once you accept philosophy into your life, you can no longer be sure of many things. You actually question reality and knowledge. You want to continue learning more in the hope that perhaps you might find the answers to some questions. Accepting the ideology of Descartes and Bostrom makes me question my existence. Maybe we are actually just an experiment from other planets on this earth. Furthermore, if the human race is already true, Plato's theory of “Forms” is actually true, because the matrix which is only a program for a dream world, still has ideas of unique and timeless reasons; to make us perceive our concept of beauty and everything else.
