Commercial surrogacy is a controversial topic that is discussed around the world between individuals and government. Both of these groups examined the ethics of commercial surrogacy, one of the major issues surrounding money used for the birth of a child. Since not many people in the world agree with this method, many countries have banned commercial surrogacy. Most of the United States and the United Kingdom have banned commercial surrogacy. Surrogacy occurs when a woman carries and gives birth to a child for a person or couple who cannot carry the pregnancy to term. The reason for this agreement or contract is because some women are unable to have children and carry a child with them. One of the most popular ways a surrogate mother becomes pregnant is through her husband's sperm, the sperm is implanted into the surrogate mother by artificial conception or in vitro impregnation. There are two different types of agreements for finding a surrogate mother, the first is commercial. Commercial surrogacy means that the person carrying the baby will receive compensation plus any future expenses that may occur during their pregnancy. The second type is altruistic, which means that the surrogate mother is only paid for expenses incurred during the pregnancy, she does not know that she is being paid to carry the pregnancy to term (Pérez, 2010). Utilitarians say if surrogacy brings more happiness to people then it will maximize good and happiness. Utilitarians believe that whatever is beneficial to the greatest number of people is considered good. They believe that the greater the good, the more people will be affected. If we looked at the ethical perspective, then surrogacy would be morally right, the surrogate mother is happy... middle of paper... ice to continue with the process and if she is paid for her help. Surrogate mothers are not forced into introductory agreements, they are not manipulated into singing something they do not agree with (Surrogacy, 2008). I think Anderson degrades women, assumes that they don't have the psychological capacity to choose what is right and what is wrong. In conclusion, the topic of surrogacy can be very difficult to understand. There are so many opinions, beliefs and traditions involved, but recent developments have shown that the option of commercial surrogacy is on the rise. Having the chance to have a child is an amazing feeling, women all over the world suffer from getting pregnant, so having a surrogate mother can make that dream come true. On the other hand, adoption could also be an option. Our world has so many unwanted children in the world, that it makes more sense to adopt them than to procreate.
