Even the simplest and most banal problems have different solutions, dictated by different approaches, driving forces and starting points. So, what can be said about solving complex problems that require a lot of time, effort and thought to solve? There are always a multitude of positions, opinions and options for solving a complex problem, so it is not even possible to say which of these options is the only true and right one. Therefore, it is difficult to judge whether specific solutions to the problem of slavery in 18th-19th century North America would be effective or not. Thus, comparing the positions and approaches of Lucy Stanton and Nat Tuner to achieving freedom for African Americans it seems almost impossible to say that only one of the points is valid. Lucy Stanton in her speech “Crushed by the Weight of Oppression” argues that the “Age of Reform” has begun, just as one reform has been made, the next is on the way (Stanton, 2).
