About Wal-MartThe Wal-Mart store, opened in 1962 in Rogers, Arkansas, focused on making a difference in the lives of each of its customers. Sam Walton's exemplary leadership, along with countless of his employees, has focused on helping his customers and communities "save money and live better." The multi-billion dollar American company was founded with the intention of providing a discount store. After becoming anxious and fearful of competitive discount chains, Walton and his wife Helen began to educate themselves on other forms of new product ideas. Wal-Mart would finally become a billion-dollar international company, with approximately 4,600 active stores worldwide (Wal-Mart Stores, 2014). Wal-Mart would engage in a number of manufacturing including general merchandise, pharmacies, grocery stores, retail variety stores and foodservice locations. These foundations focus exclusively on retailing various affordable and popular products. Sales are made on a cash and carry basis, with the open sales method system and customer selection of products (Wal-Mart Stores, 2014). A decade after the store opened, the company subsequently grew and emerged in Wal-Mart stores. Inc. However, a year later, the company successfully opened its first manufacturing center and main office in Bentonville, Arkansas before going public on the New York Stock Exchange. The first Wal-Mart supercenter was established in 1988, and Wal-Mart established its first international center in Mexico City in 1991 (Wal-Mart Stores, 2014).
