Fyodor Dostoevsky was a Russian novelist who wrote many outstanding pieces, from short stories to his world-famous novels. He was a man of many talents and his writings reflected his individual character throughout his life. The society in which Fyodor Dostoevsky grew up had an impact on his writings and in particular on the novel Crime and Punishment. His life experiences from early childhood influenced the content of this novel. Everything Fyodor grew up learning and his understanding of the world made him rightfully obsessed with writing about his perceptions that he had seen since he was a child. Dostoevsky was a native of Moscow, Russia since he was born in 1821 and his ideas and thoughts were shaped by what was happening in Moscow during his lifetime. Moscow during the 1800s was recovering from the devastation of the capital moved to St. Petersburg when the monarch of Russia decided to start trading with England again. This caused a big problem for Russia and the city of Moscow itself because it angered the French, who in return provoked a war just outside of Moscow itself. Moscow was soon conquered by Napoleon, which caused many Muscovites to begin burning the city. After the war, however, the city was rebuilt and began to grow to become the industrial capital of Russia in the mid to late 1800s. With the growth of industry in this period they brought many businessmen and scholars to Moscow . These scholars and businessmen became essential in Dostoevsky's writings because he became passionate about observing the customs of that period. This is seen quite well in Crime and Punishment because Dostoevsky writes about a former scholar who was upset because of the fall... in the center of the paper... it was also a reflection of his life. , as a reflection of the time period he was aware of. His ability to take the society he knew and transfer it into the content of the book is astonishing and this is why it is one of the classics of literature.
