Does the US government care about its residents? At Zeitoun, Dave Eggers talks about how the masses were treated by the government during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The United States has dozens of different agencies/departments to support its citizens. One of the most popular agencies is the Federal Emergency Management Agency, also known as FEMA, which provides support to victims of natural disasters. They are responsible for arriving within hours of a disaster to assist in providing food and medicine to people who need it. They will also set up shelters and provide security to people who have been evacuated from their homes. In 2005, major Hurricane Katrina affected countless numbers of people in New Orleans. Has the government prepared enough for the people? How has the government treated its citizens? People suffered under the hurricane because at that time the government had not prepared enough aid for the people. The lack of government support for the hurricane has disappointed people in many different ways. Residents of the United States were mistreated during and after Hurricane Katrina. In Zeitoun, Dave Eggers tells us the story of Abdulrahman Zeitoun, the hard-working Syrian-American owner of a contracting company in New Orleans. During the hurricane, Zeitoun saw that the military did not focus on the rescue work and did not even lend him a hand. “'I have a situation,' Zeitoun said. «I have a handicapped man who needs medical attention. He needs help now." "Okay, we'll take care of it," the man said. "Do you want the address?" Zeitoun said... The man wrote it down and put his notebook back in his pocket." ( 135). The soldier did not ask for the address of the handicap... middle of paper... you have a status, you do not have a government”. help the population survive. The US government should be well prepared for the hurricane as it is a modern, developed and wealthy country.Hurricane Katrina has certainly demonstrated how well the United States protects its people they are natural disasters, which cannot be prevented from happening. Although the United States has advanced technology to detect natural disasters much more easily than other countries, it is still not able to provide the best to the citizens he is not prepared for the storm, especially since he has begun to play a role in the disaster. People were warned to leave before the hurricane, but many poor people did not have access to transportation, which also caused hundreds of thousands of people to be affected.
