Topic > Man and Nature in Emerson and Thoreau - 1229

Emerson and Thoreau are both excellent writers who made people think about topics especially corrupt government and its treatment in that era. The writings were very creative and made people think about who gave them the ideas to think and write about what they had done and bring it to people's attention. Clearly there are many more comparisons than contrasts. Both Emerson and Thoreau were part of the same philosophical movement, the Transcendentalists, and were both key authors who did much for the general public to form and maintain the Transcendentalist movement. Both had a brilliant self-belief in the human spirit and the theme of course was to help man reconnect with nature and gain a simpler understanding of life. Later, Emerson wrote about nature to make readers understand and make changes to the tradition as the government was especially in need of changes. As stated by Shannon Vs Nature, (2011), “Emerson wants his readers to know that it is okay to have your own beliefs and make changes to tradition.” He also wants his readers to absorb nature and appreciate it. On the other hand Thoreau speaks totally different from Emerson and makes people understand the corrupt government and wants to colonize the government. According to felipOUTTAcompton, (2011), “Thoreau calls our government weak and ineffective – “It's a kind of wooden gun against the people themselves.” He doesn't want our government to disappear altogether, he just believes that the government that governs the least, governs better. According to Emerson, Nature is the source that unites people to understand the system of government, satirizing the bad author and nature is the existence that gives a meaning and a sign...... at the heart of paper......isms.” However, what follows is the tone of two writers of those eras Emerson, Nature is the source that unites people to understand the system of government, satirizes the bad author and the nature is the existence that gives meaning and significance to natural phenomena and speaking against government is Thoreau's concern.
