Each generation has its own differences that distinguish them from each other, ranging from war to economic turbulence; for the media of current generations it is the end of everything. Technology has progressed more over the generations, with technological advancements people have more means to access media. Smartphones represent the greatest technological advancement. The newest generation, Generation Z, grew up with access to smartphones, carrying media with them throughout the day. The growth of technology has made media a central part of our generation, controlling a larger part of our personal lives. This can be a negative aspect because our generation is becoming more and more dependent on media and technology. It is important to become media literate and control how much media we consume and how often; which, nowadays, is harder to do, even elementary school students have iPhones and social media web pages. I will cover what defines each generation, the effects of media and influence on technology, family dynamics in the current generation. Generations have moved from the traditional ones, those of the Baby Boomers, to the more efficient and interactive ones; Generations X, Y and Z (Valenzuela 4). Generation Y is made up of people born between 1977 and 2000 and is the largest group since the Baby Boomers (Grewal, Levy 152). Generation Z is made up of people born between 2001 and 2014 (Grewal, Levy 152). Generations Y and Z are called digital natives because they were born into a world full of electronics and digital technologies (Grewal, Levy 152).
