Imphal is the capital of the state of Manipur. Imphal is a famous tourist destination with historical places and tourist spots. On 18 June 1997, Imphal district was divided into Imphal East and Imphal West with different district headquarters. The historical places, architectural fortresses and green valleys and hills surrounding the city present a beautiful and fascinating sight for tourists. Past and Present of Imphal The city of Imphal was originally ruled by Kin Khaba and later by the Pakhangba rulers. It is through this that a powerful Ningthouja dynasty originated and ruled. After the Ningthouja tribe, the English took over and ruled here. During that period wars like Anglo Manipur took place due to internal differences between family members. War also took place between the Manipuris and the British. However, the British won and Manipur remained under the British until independence. Present-day Imphal is developing rapidly. These rivers like Imphal, Iril, Thoubal and Khuga originate from the hills surrounding it. Imphal has a subtropical climate or humid subtropical climate. The climatic conditions can well be said to be monsoon... middle of the map... the major airport and the second international airport in the northern region after Guwahati. There is no railway station in Imphal but NH-39 connects Imphal with Dimapur railway station in Nagaland and NH 53 connects Imphal with Jiribam railway station. Imphal is also well connected by roads. Western Impahl district is connected with Guwahati via National Highway 39 at Silchar via NH53. National Highways 39, 53 and 150 connect Imphal East district to other places in the North East.
