• On the Bus Ride Chris Gardner, a salesman selling bone density scanners, has struggled to support his family financially, but it has proven to be a task arduous as most hospitals considered scanners an unnecessary and expensive luxury. Unable to sell bone density scanners, Chris has had difficulty paying rent, parking tickets, and daycare fees for his son, which has caused emotional distress for his wife. During one of his trips to sell the scanner in the city, he met a person who owned a red Ferrari and several happy and successful people in front of an office building, which inspired his determination to become a stockbroker. He had the ability to work well with people and calculate numbers, and a college education was not required, so this seemed to be a feasible goal even if his wife did not support the idea. • Being Stupid Chris attempted to apply for a six-month internship program to become a stockbroker and before doing so, he asked a hippie lady to guard his scanner, not wanting to bring a huge piece of rubbish into a building refined.
