Legislation and Regulations in Sport Over the last 30 years the sport sector has been increasingly influenced by legislation and regulations aimed at protecting and ensuring the safety of people involved in sport. These rules apply to people who are in sports venues and fields. The regulations are not only in place to protect sportspeople, but also to ensure the safety and equality of staff, spectators or anyone else involved in sporting venues. Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. The Act places a responsibility on employers to ensure safety at work for all their employees. Much of the law relating to workplace safety can be found in the Health & Safety At Work Act 1974.
