Illegal Immigration to the United StatesWorks Cited Not IncludedCynthia Tucker, editor of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, published an article on the issue of illegal immigration to the United States in October 2005, in in which argues that illegal immigration is one of the serious problems like crime, poverty and terrorism that requires wise leaders capable of solving this problem. Criticism Tom Tancredo; a Republican representative in Congress from Colorado, for sponsoring legislation that she says downplays the rights of illegal immigrants. In his argument he fails to take into account the side effects of illegal immigration on American society and ignores the cost of illegal immigration. For example, there is a study conducted by the Center Of Immigration Studies, an independent, nonpartisan, non-profit research organization founded in 1985, which estimates that "families headed by illegal immigrants have used 10 billion in public services dollars more than they paid in taxes in 2002." (Immigration Center...). Cynthia Tucker cannot clearly defend her argument and loses credibility because she attacks Tancredo himself and not just his argument, and ignores immigration issues such as terrorism. Tucker believes that the main reason for illegal immigration into the United States is businesses hiring undocumented workers as cheap labor. He criticizes Tancredo for promoting this legislation and at the same time neglecting the companies that hire them. He claims that Tancredo's legislation will deprive immigrants of their writings, and this will have consequences for the United States because these immigrants produce benefits. Illustrates the benefits of immigrating to the United States with two crucial questions... middle of the paper... people living in the United States and nearly a million people arriving each year; as a result, the risk of terrorists entering the United States undetected is high. The Center for Immigration Studies' research director, Steven Camarota, explains that: "Because every part of our immigration system has been exploited by terrorists, we cannot reform just one area, but must address problems that exist everywhere (Immigration Center…) Tucker ignores this serious problem and Tucker does not explain all the facts and issues related to the issue of illegal immigrants in the United States. He also does not logically criticize Tancredo's argument; instead he attacks Tancredo himself issues such as terrorism, language, and crime Ultimately, Cynthia Tucker loses her credibility because she fails to clearly defend her argument.
