When are children first exposed to sex? It is difficult to control what a child is exposed to with the growing trend of sexual imagery in advertising, television, films and the general public. An article, Children Learn Best by Observing Adult Behavior, written by Jodie Michalak states, “Although children will always have their own personalities and emotions, they are constantly influenced by their environment” (2013). What and how children learn is a very significant part of the health of our society in the future. School has been an integral part of a child's journey to adulthood since the 17th century. Schools carefully construct the curriculum suited to the child's age group. The education system adapts to social changes and applies the necessary criteria to the curriculum. The sexual connotations prevalent in society these days raise the question of the importance of sex education classes in schools. Sexuality education is a necessary part of the information provided to our children and adolescents in public schools.
