The evaluation process will always have a place in the world of education, regardless of changes in academic standards and who takes part in the education system. It is critical to develop assessments that are resourceful, organized, and have a meaningful purpose for the assessment and applicability to the evaluator. According to the Higher Learning Commission, “Assessment of student learning is a participatory and iterative process that: Provides the data/information you need about your students' learning, involves you and others in analyzing and using of this data/information to confirm and improve teaching and learning." , produces evidence that students are learning at the desired outcomes, guides you in making educational and institutional improvements, and evaluates whether the changes you make improve/affect student learning, and documents the learning and your efforts." (Palomba, 1999) Assessments must be used by educators to shift focus from teaching to learning. They are necessary for affective learning, effective teaching, and to produce a quality learning environment (UCONN, 2013) Teachers they are not mind readers, so they must evaluate their students in numerous ways to determine what they have learned. Each student learns in his or her own way and therefore there is no fixed method for evaluating it. The following artifacts will confirm that the evaluation guidelines have been used during the student teacher's instruction. Quality Indicator 8 verifies that the student teacher understands assessment tactics for evaluating the student. Item number one (ED 322 Mid-Term Exam) shows that the student teacher has a basic understanding of formative and summative assessments two of… half of the document… and assessments as a tool for providing information about how to improve future learning.
