Nowadays, home security has become as much of a security risk as business security. As wireless technology and small networking devices become more popular, the need for security becomes more important. Security levels in homes and business environments blend with the same. Now you have to deal with the Internet in the refrigerator, home computers, portable devices and the list goes on, smaller devices are now moving into the business environment and replacing some areas of desktop computers and even laptops. My area of concern in this project is taking an inside look at enterprise security and the many ways in which security is so important in today's fast-paced computer age. Starting with the Firewall, the firewall will regulate incoming traffic from the Internet Service Provider. Firewalls provide protection from external attackers, protecting computers and networks from malicious Internet traffic such as Denial-of-Services (DOS) attacks and from users who have their connections always active, as if they do not log out of the computers eventually of the day or week at work and at home DSL or cable. Firewalls are both hardware and software in nature. Hardware firewalls sit inside your network, providing protection between your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and the inside of your network. Firewalls are a very important device in a corporate network in initiating the security process. While software firewalls are built into many operating systems (OS), they can also be added to a computer's operating system providing the same protection. However, firewalls are only one step in the process of protecting your network and computer, this does not mean that it is the only protection you need, Antivirus and... middle of paper... using VLANS as a better way to protect the overall network. As Active Directory has implemented more security features into the way users and computers are located in organizational units, and companies requiring stronger passwords with a shorter lifespan have increased security. Nobody likes remembering lots of passwords or having to use lots of cards to have strong passwords. What I think most users and even people don't understand is how important security is. Security breaches continue to occur, and many people still take pride in hacking into networks. In the future we will see how home security will become as important as business security is today. As more and more small devices become part of homeowners' daily lives and smart homes become more popular, more and more devices are added to networks just like computers in a business environment.
